Bathinda, Jan. 25 -- A former woman sarpanch was allegedly shot dead by her relatives at Khillan village in Mansa on Saturday. Investigators said the victim, Mahinderjit Kaur, who was in her 40s, died on the spot. Mansa SSP Bhagirath Singh Meena said the deceased's husband, Manpreet Singh, had a dispute with his close relatives over the dumping of waste. "As per the aggrieved family, the couple was attacked by three relatives when both were moving around the village. Mahinderjit suffered a fatal gunshot injury, whereas her husband survived. Both families live in adjoining houses and don't have a cordial relationship," he said. According to the SSP, a murder case was being registered against Bhagwant Singh, his son Amninder Singh and another relative Gurpal Singh following a statement by the deceased's family.
