ex-mohali dy mayor serves notice to Punjab over delay
Mohali, Aug. 24 -- Former Mohali municipal corporation (MC) deputy mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has served a legal notice on the Punjab government and departments concerned, seeking time-bound action to operationalise the long-pending solid waste management project at Samgauli. The notice was served through advocates Ranjivan Singh, Risham Rag Singh and Kanika Toor.
According to the notice, around 50 acres at Samgauli in Dera Bassi tehsil was earmarked for the project, but the facility remains non-operational even after more than a decade. Bedi cited the National Green Tribunal's January 13, 2015, order directing that the plant be made operational by January 2017.
The notice seeks an inter-departmental task force involving the local government department, housing and urban development department, Mohali MC, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, district administration and Punjab Pollution Control Board to resolve pending issues.
It also seeks 100% source segregation, door-to-door collection and a scientific waste-processing facility for Mohali, Dera Bassi, Kharar and Zirakpur. Bedi warned of legal action if authorities fail to act within a fixed timeframe....
