Ex-branch manager moves CBI court for bail
Chandigarh, Sept. 8 -- Ribhav Rishi, the former branch manager of IDFC First Bank's Sector 32 branch, has moved the CBI court seeking regular bail in connection with the alleged Chandigarh Smart City and CREST fund fraud cases.
The court has issued notice to the central bureau of investigation (CBI) on Rishi's bail plea and sought its response by September 10.
Rishi is an accused in two related cases concerning alleged fraudulent transactions involving funds of Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) and the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST).
In the Smart City case, the CBI has alleged that fraudulent transactions involving more than Rs.116 crore were carried out through the bank branch. The agency has also alleged that fake fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) were created in the name of Chandigarh municipal corporation.In the separate CREST case, the agency has alleged fraudulent transactions involving around Rs.83 crore.
The CBI has described Rishi as an alleged key conspirator in the cases and accused him of facilitating fraudulent banking transactions and diversion of funds.Rishi, however, has denied the allegations and sought bail.
The court will consider the bail plea after receiving the CBI's response....
