New Delhi, Aug. 30 -- Fresh from hard-fought quarter-final wins, North Zone and East Zone carry momentum into the semi-finals where they face last year's runners-up South and direct entrants and last season's defending champions Central Zone respectively at Centre of Excellence, Bengaluru. North entered the semis after a dramatic 52-run victory over star-studded West. Jammu & Kashmir left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq capitalised on a turning track, running through the middle order to finish with a match haul of 9/99. Their batting rests heavily on Delhi's Ayush Badoni, the vice-captain, who struck crucial fifties in both innings, supported by Nishant Sindhu, Abdul Samad, and lower-order runs from Anshul Kamboj. Questions remain over top-order selections after former U-19 World Cup-winning captain and in-form Yash Dhull struggled against West's pace, leaving Delhi's Ranji standout batter Sanat Sangwan on the bench. North may also bolster their attack by handing a start to India pacer Gurnoor Brar. Although Gurnoor is yet to make his Test debut, he has been part of India's last two Test squads. It is understood that the selectors are looking to provide him with more red-ball exposure ahead of India's next Test assignment, a two-match series in New Zealand in November. They face a stacked South led by Tilak Varma. Boasting of enviable batting depth in Karun Nair, R Smaran, Ricky Bhui and N Jagadeesan, South has the experience to push further than last year's runner-up finish. With Vidwath Kaverappa leading the pace attack and spin options in Shreyas Gopal and Tanay Thyagarajan, South presents a formidable challenge to North.HTC...
