Chandigarh, July 8 -- For driving under the influence of liquor and misbehaving with traffic police personnel, a car driver has been awarded four days of community service in Chandigarh.
During his atonement period, he will be made to educate other motorists about the very road safety principles he flouted. "The violator will be made to hold boards regarding traffic safety at the important intersections and lightpoints for a period of two hours daily during this sentence," said deputy superintendent of police (DSP, traffic administration) Neeraj Sarna.
The court has ordered the suspension of the violator's driving licence for a period of three months and disqualified him from holding or driving any class of motor vehicle specified in the licence during the said period.
The incident had taken place during the intervening night of July 4 and July 5 when accused Lovejot Singh, 26, of Gosalan village in Ludhiana and his co-passenger Gaganpreet Singh, 27, of Otalan village in Ludhiana, were stopped at a naka on the Sector 34/35 dividing road.
