Drugs still freely available despite govt claims: Warring
BATHINDA, Feb. 18 -- Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday took potshots at the AAP government for "politicising the bureaucracy" to inflate claims to curb the drug menace effectively. Addressing a rally in Mansa, Warring said the Bhagwant Mann government claims that the state has curbed narcotics, whereas the ground reality is that "drugs are available freely in villages and cities".
He also attacked the BJP-led central government for its "failure" in checking cross-border drug smuggling. Warring charged the Union government for "weakening the rural employment scheme and compromising the rights of the underprivileged section of society". At a protest rally march in Bathinda on Tuesday, Warring targeted the state authorities for unchecked activities by organised criminals.
Punjab Congress affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel said that the trading community and industrialists are facing a threat from extortionists. "There has been a surge in the activities of gangsters, where innocent individuals get killed. The Punjab government has completely failed to control criminals and people are feeling unsafe.
