Patiala, May 6 -- Two days after a woman doctor was found dead in her official accommodation in Fatehgarh Sahib, the police booked her husband and in-laws for dowry death. The case was registered under Section 80 (dowry death) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following the statement of the victim's mother, who accused them of harassment. A resident of Bathinda, she was serving under the Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS). She was found hanging in her room on Sunday. However, No suicide note was recovered from her. Following her death, her mother accused the husband's family of sustained harassment over dowry demands. Acting on her complaint, police registered a case against her husband and his parents. The complainant alleged that the accused had been pressuring her daughter to bring money for purchasing an SUV and had earlier also taken money for a car. Sources said investigators are also examining the victim's recent mental state, as colleagues indicated she had been under stress in the days leading up to her death.
