New Delhi, Aug. 26 -- The government is currently mulling random drug tests for all pilots, civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu said on Tuesday, articulating a proposal first reported by HT on August 17. "DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) is having stakeholder consultations right now on what the regulation says today and how we ensure there is a strict policy around this (drug tests for pilots) in the future," Naidu said. The current requirement is for an airline to randomly test 10% of its pilots in a year. "There are multiple ways of approaching this dope test. So right now, the rule says 10% across the overall pilot network but DGCA is engaging (with airlines) and one of the opinions from our side is that everyone has to go through it once a year, randomly," the minister said.
