BARNALA, July 29 -- National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) vice-chairman Hardeep Singh on Tuesday visited Barnala and said police had filed a daily diary report (DDR) in connection with the July 22 incident involving use of force against the protesting sanitation workers. Singh, who assessed the situation on the ground and met with injured workers and local officials, said the commission had already sought inquiry reports from the Punjab director general of police (DGP) and the chief secretary. "Both the initial report submitted to the commission and today's ground report will be combined to determine the next course of action. The SSP has informed that the DDR can be converted into a first information report (FIR) following a probe into the July 22 incident," Singh said. He also chaired a meeting with the deputy commissioner, senior superintendent of police, additional deputy commissioner, sub-divisional magistrate, safai sewak union representatives and other officials. Singh said the commission would take strict action against anyone found guilty and if necessary, it will not hesitate to approach the Supreme Court. "The officials have also been directed to send the medical legal reports (MLRs) of 13 injured sanitation workers," he said....
