CHENNAI, July 27 -- Kayalvizhi Alagiri, the daughter of former union minister MK Alagiri and the granddaughter of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, was booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for allegedly slapping the manager of a top public sector bank, police said on Sunday.
According to the police, Kayalvizhi Alagiri owns a commercial building in Adyar in the city, where the State Bank of India branch is located.
The branch manager had complained about the malfunctioning of an elevator in the building to a representative of Kayalvizhi Alagiri and since the issue was not resolved, he preferred to escalate the matter to Kayalvizhi herself, police said.
During an argument with the manager Kayalvizhi Alagiri slapped the official and the incident was recorded in the CCTV in manager's office. The clip was widely shared on Sunday.
The bank manager lodged a complaint with the Adyar police, following which Kayalvizhi was booked under the BNS Sections 296 (b) (using obscene words in a public space), 115(2) (causing physical hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and others, a senior police officer said....
