Patiala, Oct. 13 -- The cyber crime police have arrested two youths and apprehended a juvenile for allegedly helping Pakistan-based handlers execute an extortion attempt and issue death threats to a Malerkotla resident. The suspects, Numan Ansari of Ludhiana Bypass and Mohd Gulfam of Pandiyan Mohalla, along with the minor, allegedly filmed the complainant Lavneet Singh's house and shared the footage and location data across the border. Singh subsequently received extortion demands and a video of his home via WhatsApp from foreign-registered numbers. According to SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, cyber forensics and CCTV analysis led to the identification of the trio. He said Ansari established contact with the foreign handlers via Instagram before shifting to WhatsApp. Gulfam, who held an old rivalry with the victim, exploited Ansari's cross-border link to target Singh. The juvenile accompanied the duo on a motorcycle during the reconnaissance. An FIR was registered on October 10 under Sections 308(4) and 351(3) of the BNS. The police are seeking court remand for the adult suspects to trace the network's broader linkages, while the juvenile will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board....
