Court rejects revisionpetition against Rahul
VARANASI, July 10 -- A special MP/MLA court in Varanasi on Thursday dismissed a revision petition filed against Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Sikhs made during his visit to the United States in 2024.
The court held that the order passed earlier by the magistrate dismissing the complaint was justified, logical and in accordance with the law, leaving no grounds for interference.
The order was passed by special judge (MP/MLA) Yajuvendra Vikram Singh, who rejected the revision petition filed by Nageshwar Mishra, a former village pradhan and resident of Ashapur in Sarnath. Additional district government counsel (crime) Vinay Singh confirmed the development.
The case stemmed from Rahul's address to members of the Indian diaspora in Virginia during his US visit in September 2024. While speaking about the state of democracy and constitutional values in India, Rahul said the fight in the country was "not about politics".
Addressing a Sikh member of the audience, he remarked that the real issue was whether a Sikh would be allowed to wear a turban, wear a kara (steel bracelet), or freely visit a gurdwara in India. He added that the issue was about protecting the rights of all religions....
