Cong, BJP face off in Rohtak amid stir against Manipur MP
Karnal, Oct. 11 -- Tensions escalated in Rohtak on Saturday after Congress workers entered a BJP protest tent outside the Congress district office at Ambedkar Chowk, triggering intense sloganeering. Police intervention prevented physical violence.
The conflict began when the local BJP unit pitched a tent to demonstrate against Manipur Congress MP and former JNU professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who faces sexual harassment allegations.
Led by urban district president Kuldeep KD and rural district president Balwan Ranga, Congress supporters arrived after submitting a memorandum to the superintendent of police demanding the tent's removal. Congress workers barged inside the tent, raising counter-slogans before police escorted them out. Police barricaded the area as BJP state president Archana Gupta joined her party's demonstration while the Congress workers continued protesting nearby.
Congress leader KD questioned why BNSS Section 163 restrictions were not enforced against the BJP, arguing the tent blocked traffic and inconvenienced the public.
In response, Gupta accused Akoijam of exploiting female students with promises of higher marks, criticising Rahul, Sonia, and Priyanka Gandhi for their silence. She demanded Congress clarify whether it supports the victimised students or its accused MP. She alleged the Congress-led INDIA bloc and AAP-backed CJP are attempting to spread anarchy and misinformation nationwide. htc...
