Panchkula, April 28 -- In a significant political development on the day of withdrawal of nominations for the local body elections, two outgoing BJP women councillors-who filed nominations as Independents after being denied tickets-may withdraw from the fray following a proposed meeting with chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday. The move reflects damage control efforts by the saffron party ahead of the municipal corporation (MC) elections scheduled for May 10. A poster shared by BJP leader Umesh Sood, district vice president and former chairman of zila parishad, Panchkula on Monday, announced that Saini will address a public gathering in Sector 10 at 8.30 am. The poster also features Sonia Sood and Umesh Sood alongside the CM, hinting at reconciliation efforts. BJP district president Ajay Mittal claimed that both rebel candidates are likely to withdraw their nominations. However, Sonia Sood remained non-committal, stating only that talks have taken place and the CM is set to meet them. Meanwhile, Ritu Goyal clarified that she has no plans to withdraw her nomination as of now and has not received any invitation for the CM's programme. Ritu Goyal, who represented ward 3 in the previous term and holds strong local support, filed as an independent after the party fielded Suresh Kumar Verma from her ward.
