Ludhiana, April 28 -- Inderjit Singh Indi, a close aide of former Punjab minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, was granted bail by a local court on Monday regarding extortion charges. However, in a swift turn of events, the police immediately rearrested him under preventive sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Punjab Police on Monday conducted 486 raids on day 97 of the anti-gangster drive and arrested 240 individuals with six weapons. With this 24,520 persons have been arrested since the launch of the campaign on January 20 this year. Apart from this, preventive action has been taken against 56 persons. Police teams have also arrested six proclaimed offenders (POs) during the operation, said the police spokesperson.
A total of 103 lakh tonnes wheat has reached Punjab mandis. On Monday, 4.63 lakh tonnes of the produce reached the mandis. Nearly 39 lakh tonnes of wheat has been lifted. Funds disbursed to the farmers touched Rs.21,422 crore in form of minimum support price of Rs.2,585 per quintal.
