Ferozepur, Sept. 27 -- Police on Saturday arrested an inspector attached to the counter intelligence unit in Faridkot after recovering 3.35 kg of heroin, six illegal pistols, and live ammunition from his vehicle. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu confirmed the arrest, identifying the officer as inspector Baldev Singh. Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of narcotics and illegal arms, a police team intercepted the accused near the Ferozeshah-Moga road toll plaza. According to the SSP, inspector Kashmir Singh, the station house officer (SHO) of Ghall Khurd police station, received a tip-off during routine patrolling that Baldev Singh was headed toward Moga in an i20 car (PB-05-AC-6517) carrying contraband. A search of the vehicle yielded 3.35 kg of heroin, six pistols with magazines, four additional magazines, 17 live cartridges, and six mobile phones. Police arrested the inspector and registered a case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. In a release, Fazikla police claimed that a police team was patrolling the Sadar Jalalabad area on Friday when it intercepted three youths travelling on a motorcycle near the Dhoknian road turn while coming towards the main Jalalabad road from Sukhera Bodla village. A search led to the recovery of 270-gm heroin and two mobile phones. The accused have been identified as Harmesh Singh, alias Gaggi, 22, a resident of Chhat Wala village; Lovepreet Singh, alias Lovely, 25, of Jodha Bhaini; and Balwinder Singh, alias Neeti, 19, of Chakki Makha Singh, trio of Fazilka. Police said preliminary investigation suggested that the heroin had allegedly been brought from Pakistan through a drone. Investigators are now examining the accused's forward and backwardlinkages to identify the source, intended recipients and other persons who may be associated with the alleged smuggling network.
