Cheema blames BJP-led Centrefor India's drop in FDI rankings
Chandigarh, May 29 -- Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday claimed that India's removal from the list of the world's top-15 economies for foreign direct investment (FDI) confidence reflected the deepening crisis of investor trust under the BJP-led Centre. Referring to the latest FDI Confidence Index rankings, Cheema said while India ranked among the top-10 investment destinations in 2016, it had now slipped out of the top-15. He said the development exposed the stark gap between the BJP government's publicity-driven claims and the actual condition.
Police arrested a man after recovering 700 kg poppy husk from his truck on Wednesday. Police said they received a tip that Taj Mohammad, a Malerkotla resident, will be supplying a heavy quantity of poppy husk, brought from another state, to Lala Singh of Barnala. Acting swiftly, they arrested Taj from Bathinda Road and seized 700 kg poppy husk, estimated to be worth Rs.25 lakh, from his truck, while his aide Bhawan Singh fled. Police said Taj was already named in an NDPS Act case, and two cases of rash driving and mischief causing property damage. A fresh NDPS Act case was lodged at Barnala City police station.
