Chandigarh, Sept. 19 -- A city based social worker Niti Sarin was conferred the "Lifetime Achievement Award for 2025" by the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology (ISBTI) at its 51st national conference, TRANSCON-2026, held in Kochi, Keralam on Friday. The award recognises her contribution and commitment to promoting voluntary blood donation. A 58-time blood donor, Sarin has been associated with the Blood Bank Society (BBS) Chandigarh, for nearly 40-years and has served as its secretary for the past two decades. She is the daughter of late Padma Shri Kanta Saroop Krishen, who founded the BBS in 1964. Sarin's work as a voluntary social worker has also been recognised by the UT administration, which honoured her on Republic Day in 2000 and 2014. On receiving the award, Sarin dedicated it to the voluntary workers of the BBS, who, she said, had worked to promote voluntary blood donation for nearly six decades. The society's volunteers were also involved in filing a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court that eventually led to the banning of the buying and selling of blood in the country....
