centre launches new WPI SERIES, may inflation 9.7%
New Delhi, June 16 -- India released a new Wholesale Price Index (WPI) on Monday that shifted the base year from 2011-12 to 2022-23. It was accompanied by a release of Producer Price Indices (PPI) that will eventually replace WPI, in keeping with international standards.
India's wholesale prices increased by 6.60% between February 2026, the last month before the war in West Asia began, and May 2026, the latest period for which inflation data is available. Half of this inflation came from the fuel and power category.P13...
