Chandigarh, July 10 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday filed a chargesheet against four accused in the alleged Rs.13-lakh Punjab Vigilance Bureau bribery case from May. The chargesheet names Ankit Wadhwa, Raghav Goyal, Vikas Goyal, alias Vicky Goyal, and Om Parkash Singh Rana, the then reader of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau chief. Special CBI judge Bhawna Jain recorded the filing of the challan and fixed July 16 for scrutiny of the documents and court record by the ahlmad before further proceedings. The four accused were produced before the court through video conferencing from judicial custody. The court directed that they continue to remain in judicial custody and be produced again through video conferencing on the next date of hearing. The case was registered by the CBI on May 11 on the complaint of Amit Kumar, a state tax officer posted at Malout, Muktsar, who alleged that a disproportionate assets case against him pending before the Punjab Vigilance Bureau could be settled in exchange for a bribe. According to the agency, Vikas Goyal and his son Raghav Goyal arranged a meeting between the complainant and Om Parkash Singh Rana. During the meeting, Rana allegedly demanded Rs.20 lakh for "Sahab" and a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 mobile phone for himself to settle the pending vigilance matter. According to CBI, the negotiations were carried out in Chandigarh and the Goyal father-son duo acted as intermediaries, assuring the complainant that the vigilance case would be closed after payment of the bribe. The agency alleged that Rana told the complainant the matter would be settled once the demanded amount was paid. As part of the investigation, CBI laid a trap during which Rs.13 lakh in cash and the mobile phone were allegedly recovered. The agency arrested Ankit Wadhwa, Vikas Goyal and Raghav Goyal on May 11, while alleging that Rana escaped from the spot during the operation. After remaining on the run for three weeks, Rana surrendered before the special CBI court on June 1 after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the CBI court as well as the Punjab and Haryana high court....
