Chandigarh, Sept. 23 -- The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) comprising 23 farm bodies in Punjab served an ultimatum to the state government on Tuesday to convene a special session of the Vidhan Sabha by October 7 else the morcha will launch a protest. Addressing a press conference at Kisan Bhawan, Chandigarh, Jagmohan Singh, general secretary of BKU (Dakounda)-a constituent of the SKM, referred to an announcement made two weeks ago by agriculture minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian that the state government would convene a special session of the Vidhan Sabha to pass resolutions pertaining to the SKM's demands. Singh said the government has failed to fulfil its promise. Khudian could not be contacted immediately despite repeated attempts. On September 1, the SKM launched a protest which ended a week later on September 7 when the state government accepted all the morcha's demands and agreed to call a special session of the state legislative assembly.
