Boy killed in lightning strike in Garhshankar
Hoshiarpur, April 4 -- A teenaged boy died and two persons were injured after they were struck by lightning during a thunderstorm in Garhshankar's Rasoolpur village on Friday.
Police said around 10-12 boys were playing cricket when lightning struck, killing Tarandeep Singh, 16, and injuring Anshpreet and Jassi Loi. The duo was admitted to a private hospital in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. Their condition is stated to be stable. The body was moved to the Garhshankar civil hospital, police said.
Thunderstorms with rain were recorded in various parts of Punjab and Haryana on Friday, causing day temperatures to drop below the normal limits.
Among the places in the two states which received rain were Chandigarh, Mohali, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar, Pathankot, Fazilka, Panchkula, Hisar, Bhiwani and Sirsa. The current spell of rain, trigged by a fresh Western Disturbance, has caused concerns among farmers, who fear damage to the standing wheat crop.
In Punjab, Patiala recorded a high of 32.1degC, followed by 30.3degC in Ludhiana and 26.2degC in Amritsar. Gurugram in Haryana logged a high of 32.8degC, followed by 32.4degC in Narnaul, 32.5degC in Ambala and 30.9degC in Hisar....
