IMPHAL, Nov. 2 -- Security forces on Sunday recovered the mutilated bodies of two Kuki men, missing since October 28, from a hilly stretch in Kangpokpi district of Manipur, police said. According to police, the two men, identified as Paoginlal hangshing (20) and Tinginlun Chongloi (21), went missing at around 5.30 pm on October 28 after allegedly being abducted by unidentified miscreants while they were travelling between Hengbung and Taphou Kuki village in the district. "In continuation of these operations, an extensive joint search operation was conducted today, i.e., 1 November 2026, by joint teams comprising Manipur Police, CoBRA, CRPF, Assam Rifles and RAF in the general area east of NH-2, along the SP Road and recovered the bodies," police said in a statement. Police said extensive search and combing operations will continue in the area to apprehend those responsible. This comes after three Kuki individuals were killed during an exchange of gunfight between two armed groups on Saturday at Kekru Naga village under Nungba police station in Manipur's Noney district. The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has been protesting against the missing of the two men by imposing total shutdown across Kangpokpi district since October 29. They alleged the men were abducted by members of the Naga community. The recovery of bodies sparked tension in Kangpokpi as an irate mob confronted with police at the superintendent of police's office. Placing five charters of demands, the CoTU refused to accept the bodies until those demands are fulfilled....
