BKU makes toll plazas free for stricter anti-sacrilege law
BATHINDA/SANGRUR, Feb. 28 -- The Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) made 52 toll plazas free across the state from 12 pm to 4 pm on Friday to express solidarity with the "Dharam Yudhh Morcha" protesting in Samana for a stringent anti-sacrilege law.
State general secretary of the Bharti Kisan union Kaka Singh Kotra said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had constituted a committee last year to draft a new law seeking stringent punishment for all cases of sacrilege. "More than seven months have passed since that committee was formed, but the Bhagwant Mann Punjab government has not taken any further steps on it," he said.
Resham Singh Yatri, president of the Sidhupur faction's Bathinda unit, said instead of accepting the demand to introduce a law, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government was trying to foil the Samana protest, where several activists were detained.
Ran Singh Chatha, a farm leader, said union's state president Jagjit Singh Dallewal had pledged full support to the morcha's agitation.
The Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) leaders said the decision to make the toll plazas free was a direct reaction to the police arresting leaders and workers across the state who were travelling to join a large gathering in Samana on February 23....
