Bid to extort Rs.2 crore from Sec-20 bizman, hunt launched: Police
Chandigarh, April 30 -- An unknown man has been booked for trying to extort Rs.2 crore from a shopkeeper in Sector 20 while claiming to be a close aide of gangster Rohit Godara, police said on Wednesday. The accused made threatening calls and sent voice notes through WhatsApp, police said.
Harbalkaran Singh mentioned in his police complaint that the unidentified caller claimed that he has been associated with Rohit Godara gang. "He sent voice messages demanding Rs.1 crore. Later, he started demanding Rs.2 crore while threatening to harm me and my family members," Singh said.
A case under Section 308(4) (extortion) has been registered at the Sector 39 police station. Police are verifying the authenticity of the complaint. A hunt has been launched to trace the accused, police said.
Godara is allegedly linked with the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar syndicate and is allegedly operating from outside India. Police suspect that he operates from countries like the United States of America (USA) or the United Kingdom. Godra originally hails from Bikaner in Rajasthan....
