Barnala, Sept. 12 -- Police have booked a woman for allegedly beating her husband's five-year-old nephew in Barnala, charging her with voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation and cruelty to a child. The child, a resident of Sanghera Road, had been living under the care of his father's younger brother for two years since his parents' divorce, police said. District child protectionofficer Gurjeet Kaur said the abuse came to fore after schoolteachers alerted the Sewa Society, which subsequently informed the child welfare department. In a video circulating on social media, the child alleged that his aunt had beaten him with a stick. Dr Indu Bansal, senior medical officer at the Barnala civil hospital, confirmed that the child had multiple superficial injuries. Acting on the father's complaint, police booked the accused woman under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 75 (cruelty to child) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, deputy superintendent of police (Crime Against Women and Children) Jaswinder Kaur said....
