Ayushmann: Stardom is relative and script is the star
India, Oct. 1 -- Actor Ayushmann Khurrana recently reflected on how the idea of stardom has evolved over the years, while emphasising that, for him, the script remains the most powerful force.
Speaking on Tuesday at the FICCI Frames' panel discussion Cinema at Crossroads: The Rules of the Big Screen, in Mumbai, the 42-year-old said, "Weare dwelling in multiple universes, where there are multiple worlds of entertainment, and there are multiple stars of each world." He added that stardom can no longer be defined by a single hierarchy, with influencers, YouTubers and creators building audiences oftheir own. For Ayushmann, the story remains central to his approach to cinema. "Stardom is relative and script is the star. It is not one size fits all," he said, adding, "I've always believed that in films thatI do, stories are bigger than the actor."
Now, he feels he is returning to the sensibility that defined his early work. "I'm going back to my core, which is authenticity," he said, adding that authentic subjects can still draw audiences.
Speaking about how he remains accessible to his audience, Ayushmann said his radio and television background has kept him connected to people. "My stories are rooted; I need to talk to grassroots level people, to keep the artiste in me alive," he shared.
The actor also touched on the changing economics of theatrical cinema, stressing the need for films that can connect with audiences without relying solely on star power or big budgets....
