Silchar, Sept. 15 -- A 30-year-old man arrested for allegedly beheading his wife and storing her severed head in a refrigerator died in police custody early Monday after he allegedly attacked policemen escorting him from a hospital, jumped from a moving vehicle and fell into a gorge, police said. Anjad Brahma, officer-in-charge of Hatigaon PoliceStation, said Ramanuj Goswami was being taken back tothe station after a medical examination when the incident occurred. His body was sent for postmortem. A second officer said Goswami suddenly attacked the police team and jumped from the vehicle near Narakashur Pahar. He was rescued with injuries and taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. According to GMCH records, Goswami was brought to the hospital at 3.41 am and declared dead on arrival. Doctors said he had severe head injuries. Goswami allegedly beheaded his wife, Riya Talukdar, 25, at a Guwahati flat on September 3, accusing her of cheating on him.
