New Delhi, July 29 -- Seven more deaths have been reported on Tuesday from the flood-affected districts in Assam, raising the toll to 75. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has relaxed the norms for providing an ex-gratia to families of those dead or missing in floods this year, while announcing an additional Rs.5 lakh compensation over and above Rs.4 lakh payment to families of the deceased. According to a report for Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), all seven deaths were reported from Sibsagar, the worst affected district in this month's flooding. "We will leave no stone unturned to support our people and help them rebuild their lives," he said, while making a slew of relief announcements in the wake of the natural calamity. Marksheets and certificates of important examinations lost due to floods would be provided free of cost, the CM added. He also informed that a sum of Rs.15,000 would be provided as immediate relief to around 100,000 families in order to help them procure essential items. Meanwhile, parts of northern India were also severely hit by rain on Tuesday, triggering landslides and flash floods in the Himalayan states.
