Mohali, Feb. 10 -- The Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) arrested assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jasvir Singh posted at police station sadar, Kharar, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000. According to VB, the arrest followed a complaint filed by a resident of Sector 127, Mohali. The complainant had earlier registered an assault case against Suman Lata at Kharar police station. ASI Jasvir Singh was the investigating officer in the case. The complainant alleged that when he approached the ASI to submit the challan in court, the officer demanded Rs.20,000 to proceed with the filing. The complainant recorded the conversation related to the alleged demand and submitted it to the VB. After conducting a preliminary inquiry, a VB team laid a trap. The team arrested the ASI while he was accepting Rs.15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The VB registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Mohali. Further investigation is underway....
