Amritsar, Sept. 27 -- The Amritsar police arrested two persons on Saturday, within hours of anti-national and provocative slogans appearing on walls in parts of the city. The police launched an immediate probe after being alerted to graffiti containing provocative slogans. The incident gained further traction after foreign-based fugitive Gurpatwant Singh Pannun released a video on social media referencing the writings on the wall. The arrested accused, Mangal Singh, 26, an auto driver residing outside Khazana Gate, and Arshdeep Singh, 23, a labourer from Chabal Road, are from Wariyam Singh Colony in Amritsar. Preliminary investigations revealed that Arshdeep Singh was in direct contact with a foreign-based handler identified as Gora. The Amritsar Police have registered FIR 142 at Division A Police Station under Sections 196(1) (promoting enmity), 197(2) (offence committed in a place of worship), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Senior officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the complete chain of events.
