Sangrur, July 11 -- Demanding better working conditions and higher honorariums, members of the Anganwadi Mulazim Union Punjab forced their way into the district administrative complex here on Friday and submitted a memorandum to the district administration. Sangrur additional deputy commissioner Ankur Mahindroo confirmed that a formal meeting was scheduled to be held between the union leaders and cabinet sub-committee on July 23, which includes finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema. Union's state president Usha Rani said the central government had not increased the workers' honorarium or allowances since 2018, despite constantly rising inflation. Additionally, they were heavily overburdened with duties under central and state government schemes. "Workers are being forced to complete online work using their personal mobile phones and internet packages without any financial reimbursement," Rani said. The protesters demanded that the government honour its election promises by increasing the honorarium and annual increments for both workers and helpers, and immediately filling all vacant posts. They also demanded permanent government employee status.
