Amritsar, Dec. 16 -- Punjab Police have approached internet companies to trace the elements who sent threat e-mails to private schools in Amritsar on December 12, triggering panic in the city. Commissioner of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said police were investigating the matter under which internet companies, which were headquartered in the US and other countries, had been asked to help in tracing the senders of these e-mails. He said the police were awaiting the companies' response, besides making efforts on their own level. Several private schools in Amritsar had received bomb threats via e-mail on Friday morning, prompting evacuation of students and anti-sabotage checks. Panic-stricken parents rushed to schools to pick up their children while the district administration ordered the closure of all schools across Amritsar. The e-mails were received by 15 private schools situated in Amritsar city and adjoining rural areas, following which security was beefed up at these institutions. Bhullar had stated then that the threats may be a hoax, similar to past incidents that were traced back to students....
