AK-47, 25 pistols seized near border, one held
AMRITSAR, June 20 -- The Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police on Friday recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and tactical gear along the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar district and arrested a man allegedly linked to the consignment.
Acting on intelligence inputs, personnel of the BSF's 117 Battalion launched a search operation in the Ajnala sector and detained the suspect near Harar Khurd village for questioning.
During the investigation, officials recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 assault rifle, 25 pistols, 47 pistol magazines, a US-made bulletproof vest, and 368 rounds of ammunition. The recovered weapons, vehicle and accused have been handed over to the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, for further investigation. Punjab Police identified the accused as Rohan Khosla, a resident of Roopnagar colony in Amritsar.
The recovered weapons included 14 9mm and 11 .30-bore pistols of Norinco Star Mark, Glock, Zigana, Taurus, Walther makes, along with an AK-47, said director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
"Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused was acting on the directions of an Australia-based associate, who allegedly shared the weapon drop location through a social media application," the DGP said.
He added that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case to identify all associates involved, dismantle the entire terror network.
A case under Section 25 of the Arms Act, Sections 111 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29 of the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam has been registered at the SSOC police station, Amritsar, the officials said.
