Karnal, Sept. 4 -- A 24-year-old sexual assault victim was stabbed to death at her residence in Yamunanagar allegedly by the accused in the case, who was out on bail, police said on Thursday. According to police, the incident took place around 7 pm on Wednesday. The victim, a mother of two children aged four years and nine months, was rushed to the civic hospital by her brother-in-law, where doctors declared her dead, said an officer, quoting the complaint. The accused barged into the woman's residence, and she ran for safety to a neighbour's house. The accused followed her and kept attacking her with a knife while her husband was away for work. The woman sustained grievous injuries on the neck. However, when the woman's brother-in-law arrived, the accused fled with the weapon. The woman's husband said the accused, who is their neighbour, had been harassing the family for two years. He alleged that the accused had previously sexually assaulted his wife, following which a case was registered against him. "Later, the accused fought with me and we lodged another case, but now my wife has been murdered," the woman's husband said. SHO, Jagdhari city police station, Virender Kumar said a case was previously registered against the accused under Section 74 (assault or the use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
