Chandigarh, Aug. 7 -- Leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday organised a march from the municipal corporation (MC) office in Sector 17 to the governor's house (Lok Bhavan) against the BJP, accusing its councillors of passing 16 table agenda proposals, including one worth Rs.227 crore pertaining to the replacement of the old water pipeline from Kajauli water works to Sector-39 water works, without adequate discussion and transparency. They urged the governor to hold an inquiry. Led by state president Vijaypal Singh, the protesters alleged that the transparent functioning of the MC was being undermined. A heavy police force was deployed and barricades were placed to stop the protesters from proceeding towards the Lok Bhavan. Water cannons were used to disperse the crowd. Later, an AAP delegation submitted a memorandum to the governor's representative, demanding an impartial and independent inquiry into the 16 proposals. The protesters warned that if prompt action is not taken, the party would intensify its agitation. The passage of the table agenda item worth Rs.227 crore-one-third of the total grant-in-aid received by the MC in this financial year- during the MC House meeting on July 31 raised a storm not only in the opposition but also amongst the BJP councillors who complained to the commissioner in this regard. Mayor Saurabh Joshi on Wednesday requested the MC chief to withdraw the agenda in this regard and bring it afresh in the next House meeting....
