AAP pushing Punjab towards bankruptcy: Cong
Chandigarh, June 27 -- Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of pushing the state deeper into a debt trap by raising another Rs.1,500 crore through market borrowings, alleging that Punjab was being driven towards bankruptcy.
Referring to recent Punjab Government Gazette notifications, Warring said the state had issued securities to raise an additional Rs.1,500 crore. He claimed the state government was continuously increasing its debt burden without creating productive assets, remarking that the AAP government "will leave behind a bankrupt Punjab for its successor".
The Congress leader alleged that Punjab's outstanding debt had already climbed to nearly Rs.4.5 lakh crore and accused the government of continuing to borrow despite knowing its tenure was nearing an end.
He warned that repaying the mounting debt could take generations and alleged that the borrowings were not being utilised for development-oriented projects but to finance what he termed the government's "extravagance"....
