Bathinda, Sept. 15 -- Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of pushing Punjab's agricultural and industrial sectors into crisis because of prolonged, unannounced power cuts. Sukhbir, who was in Bathinda to attend a function where Akali leader Swaran Singh Kohli took charge as zila parishad chairperson, said the state government had failed to make arrangements to meet the rising demand. "Residents are facing power cuts of up to 10 hours, whereas the electricity demand has crossed over 17,000 MW. But the AAP government failed to assess the demand in advance and take steps to meet it," he said. Sukhbir said the lack of adequate power supply was affecting standing paddy crop, which is nearing maturity in several areas. The SAD chief said the AAP government, like the previous Congress regime, had failed to strengthen power generation capacity. "During the SAD tenure, the government had made elaborate arrangements by establishing thermal plants, biomass and solar electricity generation projects. But in the last 10 years of Congress and AAP rule, the power sector has been completely ignored," he said. HTC...
