A tearful Ronaldo bows out of his final WC
India, July 8 -- Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cup dream came to a heartbreaking end as Portugal crashed out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Monday with a 0-1 Round of 16 defeat to Spain in Texas. The Portuguese captain appeared almost in tears after the final whistle, leaving the pitch with his head bowed to a standing ovation from the crowd.
After the match, the 41-year-old confirmed that it was his final appearance at football's biggest tournament. "I'm sad to be leaving the World Cup like this. I did my best, and I'm leaving with a clear conscience. It was my last World Cup, yes," he said at a press conference.
Ronaldo ends his WC career after featuring in six editions of the tournament, scoring 11 goals in 27 matches. While he captained Portugal to the UEFA Euro 2016 title and the inaugural UEFA Nations League crown in 2019, lifting the FIFA World Cup remained the one major achievement that eluded him....
