A duck in a jersey steals the show as World Cup fever sweeps Mexico
India, June 14 -- Mexico's FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign began with a win and an unlikely viral mascot. After the hosts defeated South Africa 2-0 at Estadio Azteca on June 11, celebrations spilled into streets, fan zones and neighbourhoods across Mexico City.
Amid the excitement, a pet duck became a surprise hit.
A video shows the bird waddling down a neighbourhood street dressed in a miniature Mexico football jersey, accompanied by a woman and child. Onlookers smiled, filmed the moment and cheered as the duck made its way through the street.
The clip quickly gained traction online, with users calling it a perfect example of Mexico's football fever.
Many joked that the tournament had barely begun and had already produced one of its most memorable fan moments.
