89 get challans for encroachments, Chandigarh MC warns of more action
Chandigarh, May 17 -- The Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) on Saturday intensified its anti-encroachment drive across multiple parts of the city, removing illegal vendors and issuing 89 challans for unauthorised occupation of public spaces. The key locations included Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Sectors 34 and 35, Sector 41, Nayagaon barrier and areas opposite ISBT, Sector 43.
During the operation, vendors occupying public land were removed to ease congestion and ensure smooth movement of traffic.
Encroachments obstructing busy market areas and public spaces were also cleared.
Civic officials stated that the action is part of an ongoing campaign to maintain cleanliness, civic discipline and obstruction-free public areas.
They added that such drives will continue in the coming days to check illegal vending and ensure compliance with municipal norms....
