Dehradun, Feb. 12 -- The 40-year-old son of a retired Colonel was allegedly shot dead by scooter-borne assailants outside Tibetan Market on Wednesday, police said, adding that a murder case has been registered against four individuals on the complaint of the deceased's wife. Police said the deceased, identified as Arjun Sharma, a resident of Indira Nagar, was the owner of Amardeep Gas Agency on GMS Road, and the son of late Lt Colonel (retd) RC Sharma. According to a police officer, Sharma was approaching his car parked near the market after playing tennis at the Parade Ground when the assailants shot him. SP (city) Pramod Kumar said: "At around 10.30 am, Dalanwala police station received information that an unknown person shot a man near the Tibetan Market. Our personnel from the Dalanwala police station arrived at the scene and the injured was taken to Doon Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead." "It came to light that the deceased had a family feud regarding the family business. Owing to the dispute, his mother had sought protection from the high court, citing threat to her life from her son (deceased). A constable was deployed in her security for nearly a year," the SP said. After the incident, the police have registered a murder case against four people, including deceased's mother Beena Sharma at Dalanwala police station. Abhilasha Sharma (wife of the deceased) in her complaint said: "My husband had financial disputes with Vinod Uniyal, Sangeeta Uniyal, and Dr Ajay Khanna of SK Memorial Hospital, EC Road, Dehradun. Several cases related to these disputes are pending in court. My mother-in-law, Beena Sharma was also involved in these financial transactions, which my husband opposed. My mother in law sold property related to SK Memorial Hospital to Dr Khanna and gave money to Vinod Uniyal and Sangeeta Uniyal, creating tension in our family. We were living separately due to this. I suspect these people are involved in my husband's murder," she said. SP Kumar said the incident was carried out by two individuals riding a scooter. "Separate teams have been formed to arrest the accused, and intensive checking is being conducted throughout the district," he said. Responding to allegations of "deteriorating" law and order situation, inspector general of police (Garhwal range) Rajeev Swaroop said: "I have issued strict instructions to strengthen policing and ensure enhanced police presence and patrolling." Meanwhile, the incident also triggered a political slugfest in the state, with the Opposition Congress alleging that law and order has collapsed in the state. Vice president of the state Congress Suryakant Dhasmana said: "Law and order in Uttarakhand has completely collapsed, and criminals have completely lost their fear of the police. The murder near Tibetan Market has proved that our allegations of lawlessness in the state are true." In response, state BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt said: "The Opposition should refrain from politicising these incidents. CM Dhami has issued strict instructions on maintaining law and order, and no one responsible will be spared."...
