3 leaders from Kishor's JSP join BJP
PATNA, July 16 -- In a setback for Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) ahead of the July 30 Bankipur assembly by-election, several of its leaders, including three former assembly candidates on Wednesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at its state headquarters in Bihar's Patna, people familiar with the matter said.
The development comes amid JSP founder Prashant Kishor is set to contest the Bankipur bypoll, with BJP's Neeraj Kumar Sinha also in the fray. The seat fell vacant after four-term BJP MLA Nitin Nabin was appointed to the Rajya Sabha.
Those who joined the BJP on Wednesday included former JSP candidate from Kumhrar and renowned mathematician KC Sinha; former candidate from Digha Ritesh Ranjan Singh alias Bittu Singh; former candidate from Maner Sandeep Kumar Singh; and several others.
JSP spokesperson Tarique Anwar Champarni said, "This is nothing but pressure tactics of the BJP to poach our party members..."
Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi welcomed the new entrants. "Inspired by the policies of PM Narendra Modi and the BJP, there has been a rush among politicians of opposition parties across the country to join us," Saraogi said....
