Kolkata, Sept. 13 -- The West Bengal government has shut down a total of 252 unaided madrasas, which were operating without any recognition, officials aware of the development said. A senior official of the state minority affairs and madrasa education department said that the government had initiated a survey on madrasas running in Kolkata and 22 districts across the state. At least 2,132 madrasas have been found to be operating with permission. Around 2,396 unaided madrasas were found to be operating without any recognition, the official said.
