23 pilgrims hurt after bus falls into gorge in Kathua
Jammu, June 25 -- At least 23 pilgrims were injured when a bus carrying them skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Kathua district on Wednesday, officials said.
The pilgrims from Goran and Sumb villages of Samba were travelling to famous Mata Sukrala Devi Temple in Billawar when the accident took place near Dingi Simbli on the Dhar Road, said a police officer.
Locals rushed to the spot and initiated rescue efforts, with police teams subsequently joining the operation.
All the injured were shifted to hospital.
Union minister Jitendra Singh said that he has talked over phone to Kathua deputy commissioner Rajesh Sharma. "23 injured persons were immediately shifted to CHC Billawar, out of whom 11 were later shifted to GMC Hospital Kathua. Luckily, no casualties or critical injuries reported," he said.
All possible assistance and aid is being provided, he added.
"My office is in constant touch with the local administration. MLA Billawar, Satish Sharma, is also keeping a close follow up and receiving regular updates," said Singh....
