20 mayor aspirants as ticket race hots up in saffron party
Panchkula, April 17 -- Intense politicking got underway within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with 20 leaders throwing their hats in the ring for the mayoral ticket, and 200 hoping to be picked for the councillor's race in 20 wards, in the upcoming Panchkula municipal corporation (MC) elections.
The polls are slated for May 10, while nominations can be filed between April 21 and 25.
Among the key contenders for the mayor's ticket is former mayor Kulbhushan Goyal, who has cited unfinished development projects, businessman Pramod Singla, social worker, builder, and chairman of a local private college Amit Jindal and mining business owner Pardeep Goyal. BJP district president Ajay Mittal confirmed that around 20 applications have been received for the mayoral ticket, and 200 for the councillors.
He added that the party will now prepare a detailed ward-wise list, following which applications will be scrutinised. Based on internal surveys and feedback from senior leadership, a panel of three candidates per seat will be shortlisted, from which the final nominees will be chosen and forwarded for elections, the district president revealed.
The party has appointed cabinet minister Vipul Goyal and former minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar as in-charge and co-in-charge, respectively, to oversee the party's poll strategy....
