Mussoorie, July 27 -- Light to heavy rains lashed several parts of Uttarakhand over the past 24 hours , triggering landslides and disrupting traffic on more than 30 roads, while two people went missing after being swept away by strong water currents in separate incidents, officials said. A 19-year-old youth went missing after being swept away by strong currents in the Varuna Gad rain-fed stream near the Badethi open tunnel in Uttarkashi district on Sunday. A joint search operation involving teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Quick Response Team (QRT) was underway. Dinesh Kumar, station house officer of the concerned police station in Uttarkashi, said the missing youth was identified as Anmol Joshi, a resident of Gyansu. "Anmol had gone to the stream for a bath with his friends when he lost his footing and was swept away by the strong current. A coordinated search operation by joint teams of the NDRF, SDRF and QRT is currently underway," he said. In a separate incident, a youth from Haryana drowned after being swept away by strong currents in the Sahastradhara area of Dehradun district on Saturday evening. Rishabh Kumar, district disaster management officer, Dehradun, said the deceased was identified as Ankush Tusaam, son of Ramphal, a resident of Shimla Gujran village in Haryana's Panipat district....
