Mohali, July 27 -- An excise team seized 140 cases of liquor labelled "For Sale in Chandigarh Only" from a truck and arrested its driver in Baltana on Friday evening. It was being smuggled to Punjab, officials said. According to the complaint filed by excise inspector Gurpreet Singh, the excise team established a checkpoint near the Chandigarh-Zirakpur border following information about liquor smuggling when they intercepted a truck (HR-38-AA-2423) coming from Chandigarh at 7.21 pm. The driver identified himself as Aman, a resident of Vikas Nagar, Panipat, Haryana. During the search, the team seized 40 cases of Royal Challenge bottles, 40 cases of Royal Challenge half-bottles, 20 cases of Royal Stag bottles and 40 cases of Royal Stag half-bottles, all bearing labels stating "For Sale in Chandigarh Only". According to the FIR, the driver told the excise team that the liquor had been purchased from Chandigarh for sale in Punjab. Police seized the liquor and the vehicle and registered a case.
