BENGALURU, July 25 -- Twelve booth level officers (BLOs) deployed for Karnataka's Special Intensive Revision exercise have died since the exercise began on June 30, chief electoral officer (CEO) V Anbukumar said on Friday. "There is no provision under the Election Commission's guidelines to provide compensation to the families of BLOs who die while on duty," he said, and added that he was unaware of the causes of death. Deaths were reported in multiple districts. Bhuvana, a village administrative officer supervising BLOs, was killed on Saturday in a road accident in Tumakuru district while travelling for SIR- related work. In Bidar district, 45-year-old Sunil, a government school teacher deployed in Bhalki, suffered a heart attack and collapsed at work on Thursday and was taken to the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences, where he died the next day.
