Lucknow/Lakhimpur Kheri, May 19 -- All ten occupants, including the driver, of a passenger van were killed on Monday after a speeding truck rammed into it in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, police said. According to police, the accident took place around 7:30 am on the Lakhimpur-Bahraich National Highway (NH-730) between Unchgaon and Bharehta villages, under the Isanagar police station area,on Monday. Lakhimpur Kheri district magistrate Anjani Kumar Singh said the van collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction, resulting in nine casualties on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries at the district hospital. Dhaurhara circle officer Shamsher Bahadur Singh said the truck was seized and efforts were underway to trace the absconding driver. Khamaria community health centre superintendent Dr Amit Kumar Singh said nine victims were brought dead to the centre, while another critically injured man later succumbed during treatment at the district hospital. "Several bodies were badly crushed due to the impact of the collision. One critically injured man was referred to the district hospital, where he later died," Dr Singh said. Six people, including a two-month old baby, were killed and six others suffered serious injuries on Monday after a high-speed truck coming from opposite direction collided with an autorickshaw in which the victims were travelling, in Bihar's Khagaria district, police said. "Three people died on the spot while two others died on way to hospital while one died during treatment," station house officer Deepak Kumar told HT over phone, adding that condition of the injured is critical."...
